It Blew Up!

My computer blew up this afternoon.

I sat down at my little desk and turned on my computer. I entered my password at the Windows logon screen and waited for it to load… Yet it didn’t, it just went off. So I pushed the power button again but it didn’t turn on. I thought that maybe something was up with the power cable and that maybe unplugging it from the tower and plugging it back in would work. So I sat on the floor and put my hand over and behind the tower and just as I was pulling towards me, ever so slightly; it happened…

It buzzed and cracked with blue sparks coming from the power supply and then it blew, for lack of a better word. The power of the house went out and smoke that resembled that of a lit cigarette streamed out from behind my computer tower.

I quickly called my father and told him what had happened. He then called me right back and told me to get ready to take it to the computer repair store. I unplugged my monitor, webcam, speakers, keyboard and mouse while I hoped that each were not harmed. Thank God that my external hard drive was unplugged, I had just picked it up yesterday from the post office (Cameron gave me an external hard drive Christmas!) and I had backed up only about half of my files onto it last night.

The guy at the service station of the computer store tested the power supply, motherboard and RAM… All were blown. He said that my two 40GB hard drives should be fine and so that is what I brought back home with me. Hopefully they are fine and that I could transfer the files to the hard drive of a new computer; that is as soon as I can get one.

I don’t know when I will be getting a new computer as I only have about R300 and my parents have to pay for other things that are far more important anyway. Hopefully it will be soon though.

So I guess that this here website is on a hiatus until I have a new computer and internet access setup in my bedroom. I’ll be using my father’s computer to browse the web a little every now and then. I don’t feel like blogging that much after how terribly my new year had started off… Things have drastically changed between Victor and I. Oh and I am now living with my parents because I had to move out of the apartment. I will be writing about all that sometime but it will be a private post or members only.

I’ve been thinking about making some things only visible to those who I think are worthy of access to my most private thoughts and other personal things. I’ll see…

  1. Wow honey. That is not good what so ever. Hope everything with your computer goes well because my desktop did that about 2 years ago, but here it only cost me $50USD to get it fixed. And then it did it again, so.. I just stcik with my laptop. But anyways, I wanted to tell you even though you are gone for a bit, to give me a 16×16 icon of your website so I could put it on my “advertising” icons. It’s free, and I would love to have you “plugged” on my site :] LOVE YOU, hope everything gets better.

  5. Aww Randi, I’m so sorry you had to deal with all of that. My laptop did something similar when I first got it and it turned out it was a faulty hard drive. It’s such a pain in the ass to have to take the computer to the store. Before my parents got their new desktop I was always taking it back and forth to the store. UGH!

I hope everything works out with you and Victor. Please keep me updated once you’re able to because relationship problems are the worst. I hope that you’ll get your computer back soon. And let me know if you’re going to be going members only so I can register for your blogs. I don’t want to miss them!

I fumble with the power cord there is a crash and my cmdrom drive comes flying out of the pc ripping about half of the power supply cable with itand the other empty pay blocker thingies. I got the power out just as it did that man did I get a huge shock I unplugged everything and took it outside to make sure it wasn’t gonna catch on fire then 5min later i called tech support who where no help at all.
