The Easter tree that my mother setup this year.
Setting up this tree has been a tradition ever since my mother had seen the idea in the craft section of a womens magazine many years ago. For the past several years it has been more of a tradition for my mother and my youngest sister. A few dry tree branches are gathered and stuck into a plant pot filled with sand. It is then decorated with the eggs.
The decorated eggs are chicken eggs that have been pierced through the top and bottom, had the fluids blown out (to be used for making scrambled eggs) washed and set to dry before being painted or decoupaged. The majority of eggs on the tree have the names of family members on them; mostly the names of my cousins. Also, the majority of those eggs were decorated by mother and youngest sister. I can’t remember when I had last decorated an egg as I haven’t done so in many years… Until the morning of this past Easter Sunday, that is!
I wanted to make my own egg for the tree as the one that has been hanging on it for many years now, was made by my ex-best friend.
So I had painted one on Sunday and set it to dry on the handle of another paintbrush held upright in a pot plant. I had found finger prints and smudges of the paint later that day when I went to check on it’s drying progress. So it was fucked because somebody had to go and touch it. I left it and will make a new one next Easter, I think…
The long, four day weekend has arrived. Well, it only officially begins in several hours but many have already left work to spend time with their loved ones at home some will be traveling to see some of their loved ones and others will be going on a little vacation during this time; Easter!
I have no idea as to what I’ll be doing this long weekend; I have no plans of my own and Bruce is going to the coast for the long weekend so I’ll be spending time at home with my younger sisters, mother and hopefully my father too. I wish he were able to have more days off besides the few that he does have off every year… I think I’m going to spend as much time with him this weekend as possible.
Apparently we (my mother, sisters and I; don’t know about my father) might be visiting my one uncle to exchange Easter goodies with my younger cousins instead of them coming here to do so, which they have been doing for some years. I’m sure that we’ll visit my grandfather too. I really hope that we will see some of our cousins this weekend; we hardly see each other. I should call them sometime tomorrow to ask what their Easter plans are and maybe we could arrange something…
I remember what Easter was like when I was younger… My parents, sisters and I would go to Easter mass in the morning and would hunt for our Easter goodies in the garden a while (after my parents hid them) arriving back home from church. Or how we used to paint on the shells of chicken eggs; we had blown out the fluids, washed and set them to dry before painting or decoupaging on them. We’d then turn them into ornaments to be hanged on bare branches to make our Easter tree. Which reminds me that we haven’t put up our Easter tree yet!
